Sneaking a look at SneakerLAH, a massive event for Malaysian style enthusiasts
Curiosity got the better of me and I went to see what Malaysia’s biggest sneaker event was all about. After all, every so often when I look around nowadays, girls who would always be seen in high heels were now quite happy to pair their dresses and elegant outfits with sneakers.
It sort of made sense too, as no one can deny that sneakers are comfortable, especially when you have to be on your feet for some time. At events, at launches and at parties, the advent of sneakers is hard to deny.
It was quite a shock to see the number of people who came to SneakerLAH, said to be Malaysia’s biggest sneaker event. I didn’t quite know how immense the interest in sneakers had grown in the past few years.
There was an entrance fee which wasn’t exactly cheap and yet, the teeming crowd at the Mid Valley Exhibition Centre was something to marvel at. Young people and some older ones too, came to spend their time there and look at everything on display. People’s passion and love for sneakers could clearly be seen.
There were many brands which took up booths and had interesting activities. The Skechers booth was one of those which stood out. They hosted some fun activities at their booth including a live graffiti performance by Cloakwork, a renowned Malaysian graffiti artist. There also was an electrifying dance performance that embodied the energy of the brand. Skechers also had an interactive kinetic game and photo booth for guests to explore and have fun with.
Sneakers were of course aplenty and the visitors could be seen enthusiastically browsing around. I heard that the event was also a place where people could exchange sneakers with one another. If you were bored with what you owned, you could exchange it with someone else who wanted to trade theirs with yours.
Skechers premiered its exclusive collaboration with LA Gear during the exhibition. This will be launched in 2020. They also debuted their limited edition collection of their Energy line, said to be the pioneer of the chunky sneakers trend.
First launched in 1999, the brand is bringing back the collection as a remastered version of the original Energy collection to commemorate its 20th anniversary. Guests were also able to try out the Skechers Stamina series which combines performance and comfort with its memory foam technology. These sneakers can be dressed up or dressed down depending on the occasion.
SneakerLAH was an eye-opener and it looks like the sneaker trend is going to continue. No one can really complain, though, as who can resist total comfort for the feet when having to stand around for hours?
The trend is certainly something to consider, especially as it is said that high heel shoes may give you backaches and other problems later in life.
